Google +1 Button

Do you think it will catch on? I think the most useful part of the Google +1 button is the ability to show who, among your friends/family, has "+1" to a product page or article on Google's search page, making the search results more accurate and relevant.

Now I wonder if this is part of Google's plan to wash out duplicate/scam sites and would it also improves a website pagerank with more +1s?
